Job Crisis in American Continually Declining

Nearly 10 percent is the ever-rising rate of unemployment in the United States as of September. Government started tracking unemployment rates in 1948, and it is now the lowest it has ever been. September also marked the 21st month of unbroken job loss, and since December 2007, 7.2 million job positions have been terminated. President Obama said Saturday that the figures from this month were sobering, “I’m working with my economic advisers to explore additional options to promote job creation.” Many are hoping that will include the lower-income and middle-class families.

  1. 7.2 million jobs, wow. I can't believe what a big number that is. It is so sad that all those people's jobs have been terminated. I know a few people who have been laid off these past couple years and it is such a struggle for them and their families. I hope that we are able to create more jobs soon.

  3. That is such a large number of jobs lost. I actually thought the economy was beginning ot improve, but those numbers are ridiculous. Good job summarizing!

  4. I've been hearing a lot of conflicting information on this subject. This looks like a good article. I hope something can be done about this very soon.

  5. Good summary. People say the economy is recovering but the employment rate continues decreasing. I don't get it.

  6. Yes, I read in another article that two scientists predicted that it will be seven more years until we are "out of the hole", so to speak. That's how long it will be until there are enough jobs on the market and the economy is back on it's feet. Honestly that is so depressing to me. It was really hard for me to remain objective on this, because as much as we all want to trust Obama will come through with his promises, he hasn't been doing anything to even remotely help us - especially the lower and middle-class families. It's a really scary situation.

  7. It is horrible to think of all the hardships people loosing their jobs will go through. I don't think that many people realize how bad it still is. NIce summary.

  8. yes, I agree Cassandra. Except for those who have lost their jobs. I know that my dad is just praying each week that he'll have a job to go back to. He is an electrician and work is scarce. His company has laid off thousands of people and he thanks God each day that he still has a job.

  9. Grade: 9/10
    Mistakes:
    • Your lead is confusing: "Nearly 10 percent is the ever-rising rate..." It would have been better to say: The unemployment rate has risen to 10 percent..."
    • Run-on sentence: "President Obama said Saturday that the figures from this month were sobering, “I’m..." You should have used a period where you put a comma.
