Last Wednesday marked the 8-year anniversary of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. President Obama, the vice president and 30 members of congress met last week to discuss the possibility of sending more troops to Afghanistan, as suggested by Obama’s commanding general. The Commanding General wishes Obama to send 40,000 more troops to Afghanistan. Among the Democrats, there was much hesitancy concerning sending more troops. Sen. John Kerry voiced his concerns that no more troops should be sent until it is clear what is possible in Afghanistan. Although the meeting did not come to a final decision, Obama said he will not reduce the number of troops currently in Afghanistan.

I thought you did a good job of summarizing this article. I can't believe that it has already been 8 years. It's been so long.
ReplyDeleteWhen the Commanding General wants to send in 40,000 more troops to Afghanistan, it's obvious this man does NOT have any sons and daughters fighting over there to worry about. Based on his campaign, I thought Obama was determined to get U.S. troops out of that war. Obviously, I am not an advocate of war. But, I would think after eight years, it's time to give this tragedy a rest.
ReplyDeleteWow, this makes me nervous. My husband has already been deployed two times a total of over 14 months in Iraq and I would not be a happy wife if he was sent over there again. I think you did a good job at pointing out the most important information in this story! Great job!
ReplyDeleteIn the previous post, I got so carried away with my opinions, that I forgot to comment on the post itself. At the beginning, “last” could be omitted because it’s redundant if Wednesday was Oct. 7, within the last seven days. “Congress” should be capitalized. also, since AP style says, “Capitalize a military rank when used as a formal title before an individual’s name,” the Commanding General in sentence three should probably not be capitalized, just like you did in sentence two. Carissa, this was a great job summarizing an important news story.
