NEW YORK: Harsher Penalties for Intoxicated Drivers

Session 26: (Monday, Nov. 23)

A bill passed last Tuesday by the State Assembly of New York, would issue that any drivers who are under the influence of alcohol with children as passengers, would be convicted of a felony. The bill will be passed onto the Senate and Governor this week. If the bill comes into play, New York would the second state to put this into action, after Arizona. However, some democrats in the Legislature are not in support of this bill, as they feel it has come about by means of emotionalism.

  1. Good job on your summary. I have to say that I agree with this bill because not only is it inexcusable to drive drunk, but putting a child in danger is so much worse.

  7. I agree with you. I think that the other 48 states should pass this bill as well. It's one thing to put your life in danger because that's your choice, but when other people's lives are put in danger as well these people need to be punished more severly. Good job on your summary!

    Mistakes:
    • Democrats should be capitalized
    • This sentence is confusing: A bill passed last Tuesday by the State Assembly of New York, would issue that any drivers who are under the influence of alcohol with children as passengers, would be convicted of a felony.
