SESSION 27: blog post
Ways I relieve Stress
Since starting college, stress has been a constant factor in my life. I am always juggling work, academics, family life, church, and social activities. I’ve had to learn how to counter stress in some creative ways so that I can be in control of my life.
I usually let the stress build up first, and ignore until I get to a point of breaking. I have a little breakdown, and somehow that makes it better.
The most effective method for me is making a list of what I need to get done and by when.
I then proceed to do one thing at a time. If I look at all I have to do at once, I will be overwhelmed and discouraged. By tackling one task at a time, I gain more control over each project and situation.
Sometimes, stress isn’t school or work related. That kind of stress is harder to deal with. I’ve had to go through my grandma dying in the middle of the semester, and my mom having to deal with it. I’ve had to help raise my little sister, when my mother became very ill after giving birth. Life doesn’t always go the way you wish, and when that stress hits you, the best thing is to remain positive.
I may not want to be positive, and I may falter time after time, but overall when I maintain a cheerful mind, no matter how dire the circumstances, I come to convince myself that maybe it’s not so bad after all. And I am strong enough to get by.
I spend a lot of time in prayer, and even reading the bible. There is so much hope, because people in that book have gone through some very stressful situations. I can identify with them, and take the lessons they’ve learned and apply them to my life. It’s always helpful to know that people can relate to you. And no matter how old they are, the lessons haven’t changed.
Oh, and there is a timeless stress reliever: back massages from your fiancé!

Wow Carissa! I admire you more each time I read your personal posts. I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother dying and the sickness battle your mom has had. I'm glad you have had a great God support, and from what it sounds like a great support from your man too!

I agree about the messages they work. Sounds like you have a lot of stress. You should defiantly find a way to relieve that before you breakdown.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I am the same way! I let it all build up first. The way you relieve stress is awesome and I can't wait to try it. I normally make a list but instead of looking at one thing at a time I look at the full thing and go holy cow! Stress is really hard and unfortunately it is always there...
